Addressing the Root Barriers to Literacy
Global Book Clubs aims to overcome the following barriers to recreational reading faced by children in developing countries:

Availability
Do children's books exist locally?

Accessibility
Can the child access or afford the book?
Is recreational reading a social norm for children, and especially girls?

Utility
Can the child read the book or is there someone to read the book to them?
Is the content interesting and relevant to them?
Is the book at the appropriate reading level?

Durability
Can the book withstand regular use?
Can it be washed to prevent the spread of disease?
Can it withstand extreme weather when adequate shelter is scarce?

If Global Books Clubs succeeds in answering these questions, the program will be as sustainable and impactful as possible.
