Communications Intern

Commitment:
Requirements:

The Communications Intern will work alongside the Founder and Outreach & Communications Manager to help develop GBC’s communication strategies, branding guidelines, website and social media presence. GBC is a budding non-profit, so this is a great opportunity to get on the ground floor and help build an organization. 

Part time, approximately 10 hours per week

  • Attend weekly Zoom meetings with the full Global Book Clubs team

  • Attend Zoom meetings every other week with the Founder and Communications Manager to discuss communications guidelines, strategies and priorities

  • Work collaboratively with the Communications Manager to refine GBC’s website

  • Work with Communications Manager to design and implement social media strategies

  • Actively manage social media pages (Like/Follow/Response engagement)

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainable development / social innovation

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a partner or a team 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively using multimedia

  • Experience defining communication goals, strategies, metrics and guidelines

  • Proven record of effectively and responsibly using social media to support a cause, project or organization

  • Web and graphic design experience preferred

  • Previous experience with social media marketing in a nonprofit or social cause environment or project is a plus

Finance Intern

The Finance Interns will work as a team alongside the Founder to determine organizational priorities, create a financial plan, and apply for grants. Creative thinkers are encouraged! We will need to think outside the box in order to achieve our goals. GBC is a budding non-profit, so this is a great opportunity to get on the ground floor and help build an organization.

Commitment:

Part time, approximately 10 hours per week

Requirements:
  • Attend weekly Zoom meetings with the full Global Book Clubs team

  • Attend Zoom meetings every other week with the Founder to discuss progress, strategies, and priorities

  • Make economic projections and unit & annual cost analyses

  • Develop budgets and a financial plan for the organization

  • Develop fundraising strategies

  • Apply to grants and other opportunities on behalf of GBC

Qualifications:
  • Experience with nonprofits and/or startups is preferred

  • Experience working with organizational budgets or other significant experience managing money

  • Experience in grant writing is preferred

  • Demonstrated passion for sustainable development / social innovation

Project Development Intern

The Project Development Intern will work with the Founder and the Operations & Logistics Manager to work out the nuts and bolts of bringing a sustainable literacy product to market. While we primarily have engineering students in mind, this position is multi-disciplinary and not limited to engineering alone. We are seeking individuals who can think through big complex problems and produce real solutions for each step along the way, while maintaining our goals of sustainability in the service of literacy education. Requirements:
  • Attend weekly Zoom meetings with the full Global Book Clubs team

  • Attend Zoom meetings every other week with the Founder and Operations & Logistics Manager to discuss project goals and updates

  • Collaborate with Operations & Logistics Manager to produce a Development Plan for the organization

  • Research how to publish plastic books: suppliers, processes, materials, etc.

Qualifications:
  • Experience or interest in working with plastics, recycling, upcycling, etc.

  • Understanding and passion for holistic sustainability

  • Interest in subjects such as environmental science, material science, alternative plastics, design thinking, business, polymer science, or engineering disciplines such as civil, environmental, industrial, and others

  • Ability to weigh options, trade-offs (cost vs. material & production preference)

  • Strong research skills
